Paulding County, OH (March 5, 2025) – A deadly two-vehicle collision on US-24 in Paulding County claimed one life and left two others injured, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 12:41 p.m. near Mile Post 18 in Emerald Township. Authorities reported that a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 62-year-old Michael K. Zelek of Canton, Michigan, was traveling westbound when it crossed the grass median into the eastbound lanes. The Malibu was then struck by an oncoming 2024 GMC Sierra, driven by 44-year-old David L. Stevens of Mooresville, Indiana.
The impact caused the GMC Sierra to veer off the right side of the roadway and overturn. Tragically, Mr. Zelek was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Stevens and his passenger, 24-year-old Hunter J. Walters of Greenfield, Indiana, sustained injuries and were transported by Defiance Fire & Rescue to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital for treatment.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Paulding Fire and EMS, Defiance Fire and Rescue, the Paulding County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation, and further details may be released as authorities work to determine the cause.
