Panton, VT (January 10, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on VT Route 22A near West Rd on Monday afternoon left a passenger with moderate injuries and caused significant damage to both vehicles involved. Vermont State Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 3:26 PM.

Authorities reported that a 2014 Subaru Outback, driven by 16-year-old Allegra De Boer of Vergennes, rear-ended a 2019 Ford Expedition operated by 45-year-old Jennifer Rakowitz of Panton. Rakowitz’s vehicle was traveling southbound and had stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway when the collision occurred.

The impact resulted in total damage to the Subaru and moderate injuries to its passenger, who was transported to Porter Medical Center by the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad for treatment. Rakowitz was not injured in the crash.

Both drivers were confirmed to have been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Weather conditions included cloudy skies and wet roadways, which may have contributed to the incident. The Ferrisburgh Fire Department provided additional support at the scene. Our thoughts are with the injured passenger and their family.

Car Accidents in Vermont

Accidents such as the one on VT Route 22A highlight the risks of rear-end collisions, which are among the most common types of vehicle crashes. In Vermont, wet road conditions, distracted driving, and following too closely are frequent factors contributing to these incidents. Drivers are reminded to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, particularly in poor weather conditions, to reduce the likelihood of such collisions.

Local rescue squads and fire departments, like those in Ferrisburgh and Vergennes, play a crucial role in providing timely assistance to those involved in crashes. Their efforts ensure injured individuals receive prompt medical attention and accident scenes are secured for investigation.
