Palm Harbor, FL (October 19, 2024) – A serious accident occurred on Friday, October 18, at approximately 9:40 a.m. when 68-year-old Charles Edward Kunath, driving an SUV, disregarded road closure barricades on Lake St. George Drive, just north of Tampa Road. Despite clear indications of construction work and workers signaling for him to stop, Kunath drove around the barricades and accelerated into the work zone.

The collision resulted in two workers, both 49 years old—one from Pinellas Park and the other from Clearwater—sustaining life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported both men to local hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

After the incident, Kunath fled the scene but was later located and apprehended at his residence by Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers.

Our thoughts are with the injured workers and their families during this difficult time.
