Palm Coast, FL (March 10, 2025) – A 70-year-old Palm Coast motorcyclist tragically lost his life in a crash with a pickup truck Saturday night at the intersection of Belle Terre Blvd and Fin Way, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The accident occurred at approximately 10:55 p.m. when a pickup truck, driven by a 21-year-old man from Center Hill, attempted a left turn into the path of the motorcyclist, who was traveling north on Belle Terre Blvd. The motorcycle collided with the side of the truck, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider.
The driver of the pickup and three passengers—a 39-year-old from Waldo, a 29-year-old from DeLand, and a 53-year-old from Jacksonville—were not injured in the crash, FHP reported.
This incident marks the fourth fatal motorcycle crash during this year’s Daytona Beach Bike Week, which ran from February 28 to March 9. Previous crashes claimed the lives of riders in Flagler Beach, Ormond Beach, and Barberville in Volusia County.
The crash remains under investigation. Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents in Florida
Florida is known for its strong motorcycle culture, but it also has one of the highest rates of motorcycle accidents in the country. Events like Daytona Beach Bike Week bring thousands of riders to the state, increasing the risk of collisions, particularly at intersections where left-turn accidents are a leading cause of motorcycle fatalities.
Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable on the road, as they lack the protection that passenger vehicles provide. Even when wearing proper safety gear, riders face a higher risk of severe or fatal injuries in crashes.
Families of those killed in motorcycle accidents may be eligible to seek compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, and emotional suffering. Florida law provides options for wrongful death claims in cases where another driver’s negligence contributed to the crash.
To improve road safety, drivers should always check for motorcycles before making turns, while riders should remain cautious at intersections and wear protective gear.
