Pahoa, HI (February 4, 2025) – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a dump truck on Monday afternoon, leading to the closure of Highway 130 on Hawaii Island. The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the Pahoa police station.
According to law enforcement, the male motorcyclist, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was traveling south on Keaau-Pahoa Rd when he attempted to pass multiple vehicles. During the maneuver, he collided with a dump truck that was making a right turn into a driveway.
First responders arrived at the scene and found the motorcyclist unresponsive. He was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:23 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death.
The driver of the dump truck, a 67-year-old man from Hilo, was not injured. The East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit is handling the investigation, and authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
