Othello, WA (January 12, 2025) – A pedestrian accident involving a 12-year-old student occurred Friday morning near McFarland Middle School in Othello. The incident took place at approximately 7:05 a.m. at the intersection of 7th Avenue and East Scootney Street.
According to reports, the 7th-grade students were walking to school when a vehicle struck them at the crosswalk. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the driver, who had initially stopped at the crosswalk, was focused on another vehicle to their left and failed to notice the student approaching from the right. When the driver accelerated, the student was suddenly in the vehicle’s path, resulting in a collision.
Fortunately, the student sustained only minor injuries, including bruising, and was able to walk to school after the incident. Emergency responders arrived shortly after and transported the student to a local hospital as a precaution for further evaluation.
The driver stopped immediately to assist the student and cooperated with authorities at the scene. Police issued the driver a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Our thoughts are with the injured student, and we extend our hopes for their swift and complete recovery.
