Osage County, MO (February 5, 2025) — A two-vehicle crash on Missouri Route 100 left one person injured Wednesday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. at 5926 MO 100, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that a 41-year-old woman from Columbia, MO, was driving a 2020 Toyota Corolla northbound when she braked to avoid an animal in the roadway. An 18-year-old driver from Jefferson City, MO, operating a 2019 Ford Escape, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the Corolla.

The driver of the Corolla suffered injuries and was transported by Osage County EMS to University Hospital for treatment. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were towed from the scene by 4J’s Towing. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end crashes are one of the most common types of vehicle accidents, often resulting from distracted driving, following too closely, or failure to react to sudden stops. Even at lower speeds, these collisions can lead to injuries such as whiplash, back pain, and head trauma.

Missouri law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance to prevent rear-end crashes. When a driver fails to stop in time, they may be held liable for damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, and vehicle repairs.

To prevent rear-end accidents, drivers should always stay alert, avoid distractions, and leave sufficient space between vehicles, particularly in areas with wildlife or unexpected road hazards.
