Ormond Beach, FL (February 21, 2025) – A deadly collision involving two pickup trucks occurred Thursday night on State Road 40 near Shadow Crossing Blvd, claiming the life of an 81-year-old man from Daytona Beach.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash took place at approximately 7:26 p.m. The elderly driver was in a Ford F-150, stationary in a driveway near a stop sign when he attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound SR-40. In doing so, he entered the path of an oncoming GMC Sierra, driven by a 16-year-old from Ormond Beach.
The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to overturn—the F-150 came to rest in the westbound lane of SR-40, while the GMC Sierra flipped into the median. Tragically, the 81-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The teenage driver was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the victim and hope for the full recovery of the injured driver.
Rollover Accidents in Florida
Rollover crashes, such as this tragic accident on SR-40, are often among the most severe types of vehicle collisions. These incidents frequently result from high-speed impacts, improper turning maneuvers, or vehicle instability upon collision.
In this case, both the Ford F-150 and GMC Sierra overturned, highlighting the dangers of vehicle rollovers, which significantly increase the risk of serious or fatal injuries. Larger vehicles, such as pickup trucks and SUVs, are more susceptible to rollovers due to their higher center of gravity.
For those involved in severe crashes, seeking medical attention is critical, even if injuries seem minor at first. Additionally, understanding legal rights and available resources can help families cope with the aftermath of a serious accident.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a car accident, help is available. Speaking with a professional can provide guidance on the next steps and ensure that you receive the necessary support.
