Orlando, FL (March 10, 2025) – A woman was killed and at least two others were injured in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of Sand Lake Rd and Winegard Rd, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The accident occurred around 12:40 a.m. when a Honda Odyssey minivan, stopped for a red light in the westbound inside lane of Sand Lake Rd, was struck from behind by a BMW X3. Authorities say the BMW failed to stop, causing a severe rear-end collision.
Following the crash, the occupants of the BMW fled the scene on foot. Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to apprehend one of them, a 25-year-old Kissimmee man, who was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. FHP is working to identify who was driving the BMW at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Honda Odyssey, a 47-year-old Orlando woman, was taken to ORMC, where she was later pronounced dead. Her passenger also suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
Authorities continue to investigate and urge anyone with information about the crash or the fleeing BMW occupants to contact FHP.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Florida
Hit-and-run accidents are a growing concern in Florida, often leaving victims without immediate medical aid and making it harder for families to find justice. Under Florida law, all drivers involved in a crash must remain at the scene, particularly when injuries or fatalities occur. Fleeing the scene is a felony offense with severe legal consequences.
Victims of hit-and-run crashes and their families may face significant financial burdens, including medical expenses, lost wages, and funeral costs. If the responsible driver is not identified, uninsured motorist (UM) coverage can help compensate for damages.
To reduce the risk of serious crashes, drivers should always remain attentive, obey speed limits, and avoid impaired or reckless driving. If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit-and-run accident, seeking legal guidance can help secure the justice and compensation needed for recovery.
