Orlando, FL (December 25, 2024) – A Florida family is seeking assistance in identifying the driver of a semi-truck involved in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 4. The incident occurred while the Rodriguez family was moving from Sarasota to Orlando, preparing to celebrate Christmas in their new home. However, those plans were abruptly halted following the collision.
Justin Rodriguez, the driver, recounts the moment his vehicle collided with the back of an 18-wheeler after the truck abruptly cut in front of him. Dashcam footage from the incident shows the semi-truck merging into Rodriguez’s lane, leaving him little time to react. Despite slamming on the brakes, the collision was unavoidable. Rodriguez’s car was totaled, and his family was shaken by the experience.
“My wife was in the passenger seat, and my 11-year-old son was in the back,” Rodriguez shared. “I couldn’t see because the hood was up, and the airbags were covering the mirrors. I was hoping the truck would stop ahead of us, but it didn’t.”
All three family members were taken to the hospital following the crash and are recovering. Now, the family is hoping the truck driver will come forward or that someone with information about the incident will step up to assist.
“I just hope he comes forward,” Rodriguez said. “Or maybe he didn’t realize we hit him, sees the damage to the trailer, and does the right thing.”
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Seeking Justice for Hit-and-Run Victims in Florida
Hit-and-run crashes are a growing concern across Florida, especially those involving larger vehicles like semi-trucks. Incidents like the one on Interstate 4 not only result in significant property damage but also endanger lives and disrupt families.
Florida law mandates that all drivers involved in an accident must stop and provide assistance. Failing to do so can result in severe penalties, including fines, license revocation, and potential jail time. However, enforcement often depends on witnesses or evidence, such as dashcam footage, to identify the at-fault party.
For families like the Rodriguezes, recovering from such an ordeal involves more than physical healing. Emotional trauma and financial burdens add to the challenges. Support from the community can make a difference in finding justice and holding the responsible party accountable.
If you witnessed this crash or have information about the semi-truck involved, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol. Your actions could bring much-needed closure and justice to the Rodriguez family this holiday season.
