Omaha, NE (February 14, 2025) – One person suffered serious injuries in a crash on Interstate 680 at the Blair High Rd exit Friday morning. Emergency crews responded to the scene just before 8 a.m., where two vehicles had veered off the shoulder, with one colliding into a tree.
Omaha Fire and Rescue provided medical care at the scene before transporting the injured victim to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. Due to the crash, I-680 northbound at Fort St was closed for nearly two hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage from the snowy hillside. The road reopened around 10 a.m.
Officials noted that road conditions were slick in some areas due to winter weather, which may have contributed to the crash. The Omaha Police Department continues to investigate.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we hope for a full recovery.
Winter Road Accidents in Nebraska
Nebraska’s winter weather creates hazardous driving conditions, with icy roads and drifting snow increasing the risk of crashes. Highways like I-680 can become particularly dangerous when snow accumulates on ramps and bridges, leading to reduced traction and longer stopping distances.
In Friday’s crash, reports indicate that road conditions may have played a role, as vehicles lost control and left the roadway. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution during winter storms by reducing speed, maintaining safe following distances, and avoiding sudden braking or acceleration on slick surfaces.
Serious accidents can leave victims facing medical bills, rehabilitation, and vehicle repair costs. If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash, seeking legal guidance can help you navigate your options and find the support you need.
