Omaha, NE (September 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning, Sptember 23 involving a stolen vehicle, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old passenger and serious injuries to four others. The incident took place at approximately 3:12 a.m. at the intersection of 37th and X Streets.
According to authorities, a 15-year-old boy, identified as Tap Tap, was driving a stolen 2013 Hyundai Sonata with five other occupants, ranging in age from 13 to 20. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a parked car. The force of the impact caused the front seat passenger, a 14-year-old boy, to be partially ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. The injured passengers were transported to local hospitals for treatment, while the 14-year-old was taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
A bottle of whiskey was discovered on the driver’s side floorboard of the Hyundai, leading investigators to examine speed, lack of seat belt use, and alcohol consumption as potential contributing factors to the crash. Tap is now facing charges of manslaughter and theft by receiving stolen property, and he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 29.
