Okmulgee County, OK (February 27, 2025) – Two men from Weleetka tragically lost their lives in a crash early Thursday morning on Old US-62 near Henryetta, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

Authorities reported that the crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. when 24-year-old Austin Peavler was driving westbound. His truck veered in and out of the roadway for reasons still under investigation before colliding with a tree. Peavler and his passenger, 32-year-old Dakota Baldwin, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

OHP stated that Baldwin was ejected approximately six feet from the vehicle upon impact. Officials have not yet released further details regarding possible contributing factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of both victims during this difficult time.

Single-Vehicle Accidents in Oklahoma

Single-vehicle crashes, particularly those involving fixed objects like trees, often result in serious or fatal injuries. These accidents can be caused by a variety of factors, including driver fatigue, speeding, road conditions, or vehicle malfunctions.

Ejections from a vehicle during a crash significantly increase the risk of fatal injuries, which is why wearing seat belts is crucial for all occupants. In many cases, investigators will analyze whether speed, impairment, or distraction played a role in the accident.

Families of victims in fatal crashes may have legal options for seeking compensation to cover funeral expenses, lost income, and other damages. Understanding the circumstances of the crash can help loved ones determine the best steps forward.
