Oklahoma City, OK (November 29, 2024) – A woman tragically died following a late-night fire at the Redbud Landing Apartments in southeast Oklahoma City on Wednesday, November 27. The Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to a smoke investigation call around 10:21 PM, initially suspecting the smoke was coming from a dishwasher in the apartment where the call originated. However, upon further investigation, firefighters discovered the smoke was coming from a neighboring apartment.
Crews entered the adjacent unit and found a small fire contained in a bedroom, along with heavy smoke. During the firefighting efforts, they located an unconscious woman in the bathroom. Firefighters quickly pulled her from the apartment and administered life-saving measures before rushing her to Baptist Medical Center in critical condition. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries, and her identity has not yet been released.
The fire, which was largely confined to the bedroom, caused minimal damage to surrounding units. Three residents were displaced, but no other injuries were reported. Fire officials have stated that no smoke alarms were heard during the incident, and arson investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. With minimal damage to the other apartments, the focus remains on determining the origin of the flames and whether safety protocols were followed in the building.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
