Ocean Ridge, FL (January 29, 2025) – A tragic workplace accident claimed the life of a tree-trimming contractor in Ocean Ridge on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. while the man, a contracted vendor with Carlton Tree Service, was trimming trees alone on his first day of work at the Ocean Ridge Town Hall and Police Department property. According to Town Manager Lynne Ladner, the worker was pulled headfirst into a wood chipper, sustaining fatal injuries.
Crew members who witnessed the horrific accident immediately responded, and emergency personnel arrived shortly after. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family, who reside in Mexico, have not yet been notified.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been alerted and is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Officials have not released the victim’s identity.
Boynton Beach Fire Rescue is providing grief counseling for town employees and vendor staff affected by the tragedy.
