Ocean Pines, MD (November 8, 2024) – A Worcester County deputy was involved in a head-on collision Friday morning on Racetrack Road (Rt 589) near Cathage Rd. The crash, which occurred in front of the Shore Stop/Valero gas station, prompted a response from local emergency services and temporarily redirected traffic in the area.
According to the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place when the deputy was traveling southbound on Racetrack Rd. A GMC van exiting the Tidal Health Ocean Pines Campus crossed into the southbound lane, traveling north and directly into the deputy’s path. The resulting head-on collision left both drivers injured.
The deputy was transported to Atlantic General Hospital (AGH) for evaluation, while the GMC van driver was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. Thankfully, both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to citizens who assisted at the scene and commended the prompt response of emergency medical services.
