Ocean City, MD (December 20, 2024) – A serious collision involving a scooter and a vehicle occurred Friday on the westbound lanes of Route 50 near Kelley Bridge in Ocean City. Emergency responders, including EMS teams and Maryland State Police (MSP) Aviation, were called to the scene to assist the injured individuals.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local and state authorities.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this incident, and we hope for their full recovery.
Scooter and Vehicle Accidents in Maryland
Scooter-related accidents often present unique risks to riders due to their limited protection compared to passenger vehicles. The scenic yet busy roadways in Ocean City, particularly on RT 50 and surrounding areas, see significant traffic, increasing the likelihood of collisions.
Maryland emphasizes road safety through various measures, including public education on sharing the road with scooters and other vulnerable road users. Factors like speed, visibility, and distracted driving often contribute to these types of incidents. Bridges, such as Kelley Bridge, can pose additional hazards due to narrow lanes and heavy traffic.
