Oakland, WI – 2 Dead, 1 Injured in Crash on East Bass Lake Rd

Oakland, WI (September 3, 2024) – Two people from Minnesota died, and one person was injured in a vehicle accident early Saturday morning, August 31. The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies arrived at 2:01 a.m. after OnStar alerted them about the crash near 28624 East Bass Lake Rd. 

The vehicle, carrying three occupants, went off the road and struck a tree. The driver, Layne W. Leitner, 25, and passenger, Kyle R. Orloske, 34, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger was rescued and flown to a hospital. 

Investigators are looking into the role of alcohol in the accident.
