Norwalk, OH (January 28, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision claimed the life of 31-year-old Ashley Smith of Wakeman on Monday night. The crash occurred around 8:56 p.m. on Cleveland Road near Townsend Avenue in Huron County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), Smith was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent eastbound when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2018 Kenworth T3 truck driven by a 67-year-old man from Cleveland.
Smith succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Authorities reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The truck driver was uninjured.
OSHP indicated that it is currently unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. The incident remains under investigation.
Emergency responders from Norwalk police and fire departments, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, North Central EMS, and the Huron County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
