Norwalk, CT (February 4, 2025) – A bicyclist was fatally struck by an unmarked police vehicle at the intersection of Connecticut Ave and Fairfield Ave on Monday evening, according to authorities.
The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. when a Norwalk police detective, driving an unmarked Chevrolet Equinox with emergency lights activated, was responding to a call. State police reported that the officer was approaching the intersection with a green light when the bicyclist, identified as 68-year-old Manuel Bonilla-Gomez of Norwalk, entered the intersection against a red light.
First responders provided immediate medical aid before transporting Bonilla-Gomez to Norwalk Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Norwalk Police Chief James Walsh extended the department’s condolences to the victim’s family. The officer involved, a 10-year veteran of the department, has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the incident as state police continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
