North Little Rock, AR (January 29, 2025) – A tragic multi-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 161 resulted in one fatality.
According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 6:56 a.m. and involved three vehicles: a 2019 International box truck, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, and a 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Due to an earlier crash, the Jeep Cherokee and the Freightliner were stopped in the number one lane when the box truck failed to stop, colliding with the rear of the Jeep. The impact forced the Jeep into the rear of the Freightliner. The box truck then continued forward, coming to a rest partially on top of the Jeep.
Tragically, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, identified as 40-year-old William Cox of Cabot, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were immediately reported.
The crash led to significant traffic delays as officials conducted an investigation and worked to clear the roadway. Weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the accident.
The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office took custody of the deceased victim. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine contributing factors.
Our thoughts are with the family of William Cox during this difficult time.
Truck Accidents in Arkansas
Arkansas highways, particularly major interstates like I-40, see a high volume of commercial vehicle traffic. Collisions involving large trucks can have devastating consequences due to their size and weight. Rear-end crashes involving tractor-trailers or box trucks often lead to severe injuries or fatalities, especially when passenger vehicles are involved.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report that truck accidents account for a significant portion of highway fatalities each year. Many of these collisions occur due to factors such as driver fatigue, distracted driving, or failure to stop in time when traffic slows.
Victims and their families often face immense challenges in the aftermath of fatal truck accidents. From medical expenses and lost income to emotional suffering, the impact of these crashes can be overwhelming. Seeking legal guidance may help families understand their rights and potential options for justice and compensation.
