North Lindenhurst, NY (March 4, 2025) – A crash involving a mini school bus and a sedan left nearly ten people injured, including several young children, on Monday evening.

According to officials, the accident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and North Delaware Avenue when the driver of a sedan ran a red light and collided with the school bus.

The mini school bus was carrying eight passengers, including five children aged five or younger, as well as a driver, an aide, and a teacher. Four of the children, along with the three adults on board, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The parents of the fifth child declined medical attention.

The driver of the sedan, who also sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that they will be issued summonses for traffic violations related to the crash.

The accident led to temporary traffic disruptions as emergency crews worked to assist the injured and clear the scene. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

We extend our thoughts to all those affected and wish them a full recovery.

School Bus Safety and Red-Light Violations in New York

Collisions involving school buses are particularly concerning due to the presence of young passengers. While school buses are among the safest vehicles on the road, accidents caused by reckless driving—such as running a red light—can put children at serious risk.

New York law strictly prohibits running red lights, as these violations often lead to severe crashes at intersections. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant, obey traffic signals, and exercise extra caution in areas where school buses are present.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a crash, seeking medical attention, documenting the incident, and consulting with professionals can help protect your rights.
