Nisswa, MN (December 6, 2024) – An injury accident occurred at the intersection of southbound Highway 371 and County Road 77 in Nisswa, Crow Wing County, on December 5, 2024, at approximately 11:12 AM. The crash involved a 2022 Jeep Renegade and a 2014 Ram 1500.

The Jeep Renegade, driven by 77-year-old Richard Owen Kimmel from Hackensack, MN, was traveling southbound on Highway 371 when it collided with the Ram 1500, which was in the left turn lane preparing to turn from northbound Highway 371 onto westbound County Road 77. The vehicles made contact in the intersection, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to the driver of the Jeep.

Kimmel was transported to Essentia St. Joe Brainerd for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Ram 1500, 75-year-old Ronald Frank Cherne from Brainerd, MN, was uninjured and did not require medical attention. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no alcohol is believed to have been involved in the crash.

Emergency responders from the Nisswa Police Department, Nisswa Fire Department, and North Memorial Ambulance quickly arrived at the scene and assisted with the incident. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Intersections like the one at Highway 371 and County Road 77 are high-traffic areas, and accidents in such locations can happen quickly due to the flow of vehicles turning and crossing busy roads. Collisions at intersections often result from failure to yield or not anticipating the actions of other drivers.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of careful driving when navigating intersections. Drivers are encouraged to remain cautious, use turn signals properly, and always be aware of the surrounding traffic, particularly when turning across or merging with busy roads.

Victims of accidents should seek medical attention for any injuries, even those that appear minor, as some injuries may not be immediately apparent. Additionally, consulting with legal and insurance professionals can help navigate the post-accident process.
