Newton County, MO (December 9, 2024) – A serious motor vehicle collision occurred late Saturday night, approximately five miles east of Neosho on Highway 86 at Highway H. The incident, reported at 11:28 p.m., involved two vehicles, a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2003 Dodge 1500, both of which sustained total damage.

According to preliminary reports, the driver of the Dodge 1500 failed to yield to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, resulting in a collision. The crash caused serious injuries to both drivers. The female driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old from Fairview, MO, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO, with serious injuries. The male driver of the Dodge, a 59-year-old from Anderson, MO, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital for medical treatment.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Rons Towing and Metro Towing. The drivers were both wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, and authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the failure to yield.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Accidents like this one are unfortunately common on Missouri’s rural roadways, where road conditions and traffic volume can contribute to serious crashes. Driver errors, such as failure to yield or improper turning, often lead to severe accidents, especially when vehicles are traveling at high speeds.

Missouri’s road safety programs encourage drivers to remain vigilant and follow traffic laws, particularly in areas where intersections or road merges are involved. Drivers are reminded to always yield the right-of-way when required and to pay close attention to other vehicles and road signs to prevent accidents.

For those involved in serious accidents, seeking immediate medical attention, documenting the scene, and consulting with professionals can help ensure proper care and resolution of any claims or legal matters.
