Newton County, MO (January 21, 2025) – A fatal head-on collision occurred just after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning on MO-86 near Norway Road, prompting a significant emergency response and road closure for investigation.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the crash involved a Jeep traveling westbound on MO-86 and a Toyota Prius in the oncoming lane. The Jeep reportedly attempted to pass other vehicles and collided head-on with the Prius.
The driver of the Jeep, an adult male, was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned off the north side of the road. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The Newton County Coroner was called to assist.
The Prius’s driver, an adult male in his 40s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Joplin hospital for evaluation. EMS staff reported he was alert and communicative during transport.
The MSHP Troop D Crash Team utilized drones and digital survey equipment to analyze the scene. Metro Towing removed the vehicles. The crash remains under investigation, and further updates are expected once next-of-kin notifications are complete.
