Newton County, MO (January 22, 2025) – A devastating accident occurred early Tuesday morning on MO 86, approximately two miles west of Fairview. The crash involved two vehicles and tragically resulted in the death of one individual and serious injuries to another.
At around 7:00 a.m., emergency responders arrived at the scene of the collision, where they found a 2012 Jeep Wrangler and a 2010 Toyota Prius had been involved in a violent collision. The Jeep was traveling westbound, and the Prius was heading eastbound at the time of the crash. Reports indicate that the driver of the Jeep attempted to pass another vehicle when it collided head-on with the Prius. Following the impact, the Jeep overturned and came to rest off the roadway, ejecting its driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt.
The 57-year-old male driver of the Jeep, from Fairview, MO, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems. Emergency responders transported his remains to the Newton County Coroner’s Office in Neosho. The driver of the Prius, a 44-year-old male from Webb City, MO, was wearing a seatbelt but suffered serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for treatment.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash and were removed from the scene by Metro Towing of Neosho. Authorities from Troop D confirmed this incident marks the troop’s third fatality for 2025.
