Newbury, MA (November 28, 2024) – A New Hampshire man, identified as 49-year-old Jeremy Cole, a police sergeant at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts, was tragically killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 95 in Newbury, Massachusetts, early Thanksgiving morning. The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. on November 26, when authorities received reports of a wrong-way driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Hampton, New Hampshire.
Troopers from New Hampshire State Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it as it continued southbound, despite the officers’ efforts. The wrong-way driver, a man in his 40s from southern Massachusetts, evaded law enforcement and continued into Massachusetts. Authorities shadowed the vehicle through the Newburyport area, where the driver eventually collided with Cole’s Chevrolet Trailblazer in Newbury. The force of the crash was catastrophic, and Cole was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, and the driver of the Tesla, who was severely injured, was transported to a Boston hospital via medical helicopter. The Tesla driver is expected to face charges, and the incident remains under investigation by both Massachusetts and New Hampshire State Police.
