Newark, DE (December 23, 2024) – A serious head-on collision occurred Friday afternoon in the 1200 block of Old Baltimore Pike, west of Route 896, requiring rescue crews and paramedics to extricate and assist the injured. The crash was reported just after 4:30 PM.
Rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, along with New Castle County Paramedics, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman in her 20s trapped inside her vehicle and a 17-year-old male driver who had self-extricated. Initial reports indicate that one of the drivers crossed into oncoming traffic, leading to the severe crash.
By 4:48 PM, the woman was successfully extricated from her vehicle. Both drivers were transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance with New Castle County Paramedics. The severity of their injuries has not been disclosed.
The collision caused significant damage to both vehicles, resulting in major delays on Old Baltimore Pike as investigators worked to determine the cause and crews cleared the roadway. Evening commuters faced heavy traffic in the area.
