Newark, DE (March 5, 2025) – The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning on Christiana Rd, leaving one man dead and multiple others injured.
The collision happened at approximately 6:19 a.m. when a 2013 Honda CR-V, stopped in the left turn lane on Christiana Rd westbound, attempted to turn left into University Plaza. As the vehicle entered the intersection, it moved directly into the path of an eastbound 2018 Honda Pilot, resulting in a violent collision in the eastbound lanes.
Emergency responders arrived quickly to render aid. The driver of the CR-V, an 84-year-old man from Newark, suffered critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have withheld his name pending family notification.
The driver of the Pilot, a 46-year-old woman from Elkton, Maryland, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the Pilot, a 15-year-old female and an 8-year-old female, were also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash led to an extended road closure of approximately three hours while police investigated and cleared the scene. Officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
