Newark, DE (January 14, 2025) – The Newark Police Department is investigating a car crash involving a stolen vehicle that occurred early Monday morning at St. John AM Church on East Cleveland Ave. Two individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Officers initially responded to a car dealership on the 300 block of East Cleveland Ave at around 4:15 a.m. after receiving reports of trespassing and suspicious activity involving a black sedan and individuals on foot. As officers arrived, the vehicle left the dealership and fled westbound on East Cleveland Ave when officers attempted a traffic stop.
Shortly afterward, the black sedan crashed into the St. John AM Church. Emergency responders transported two injured occupants from the scene to a nearby hospital. Authorities later confirmed that the vehicle involved in the crash had been reported stolen in Pennsylvania.
The Newark Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the crash and the events leading up to it. No additional information has been released at this time.
