New Orleans, LA (December 4, 2024) – A pedestrian was struck and killed in New Orleans East on the evening of December 3, 2024. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) reported the incident occurred on Interstate 510 South near the Lake Forrest Boulevard exit at approximately 6:09 p.m.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a man lying in the road, having been hit by a car. The driver of the vehicle involved had stopped nearby and immediately called the police to report striking an “unknown object” in the left lane. New Orleans Emergency Services pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Police stated that neither speed nor impairment appeared to be contributing factors in the crash, and as a result, the driver was not charged with any violations. The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released, pending an autopsy and family notification by the Orleans Parish Coroner.
This tragic incident highlights the danger of walking near roadways, especially on high-speed lanes such as I-510. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
