New Madrid, MO (November 22, 2024) – A two-vehicle crash on US 61 at Route W, approximately five miles north of New Madrid, left two drivers with injuries Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:05 PM and involved a 2014 International truck and a 2011 Toyota Prius.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened as the Toyota Prius, driven by an 88-year-old female from New Madrid, attempted to make a left turn. The vehicle was struck on its side by the northbound International truck driven by a 27-year-old male from Morehouse, MO. The impact caused moderate damage to the truck and totaled the Prius.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, and both drivers, who were wearing safety devices, sustained injuries. They were transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston for medical evaluation and treatment.
The Prius was towed from the scene by Sprouse Towing, while the truck was removed by D and L Wrecker. Authorities continue to investigate the accident to determine contributing factors.
