New Madrid, MO (December 18, 2024) – A devastating fatal collision occurred on Route U, half a mile west of New Madrid, claiming the lives of four individuals. The accident involved two vehicles and took place late Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:35 PM in New Madrid County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Jeep, driven by a 41-year-old male from Lilbourn, MO, lost control, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with a 2004 Dodge Stratus. The Dodge was being operated by a 17-year-old female, also from Lilbourn.
Tragically, all occupants involved in the collision were pronounced deceased at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner George DeLisle at 5:00 PM. The fatalities included the 41-year-old driver of the Jeep, the 17-year-old driver of the Dodge, and two juvenile passengers in the Jeep, a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old female. All individuals were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Both vehicles were declared total losses and removed from the scene by Sprouse Towing. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with other assisting officers, is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
