New London, NH (October 7, 2024) – A tragic single-vehicle accident occurred early this Monday morning, October 7, resulting in one fatality and another individual seriously injured. At approximately 12:50 a.m., emergency responders from the New London Police Department, Sunapee Police Department, New London Hospital EMS, and the New London Fire Department arrived at the scene of the collision on Little Sunapee Road.
Initial reports indicate that a 2024 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southeast when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle subsequently veered off the left side of the road, colliding with a utility trailer parked nearby. Following the impact, the Hyundai caught fire.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Vincent Mendillo, 27, of Mission Viejo, California, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, a passenger in the vehicle, whose name is being withheld pending official identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
In response to the incident, the New London Police Department requested the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit to conduct an investigation, with assistance from State Troopers from Troop D and members of the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
