New Haven, CT (October 6, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred this morning when a man, initially reported in critical condition, has died due to smoke inhalation from a residential fire. Just before 6:30 AM, the New Haven Fire Department responded to a fire at the 500 block of Elm Street.
Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy flames emanating from both the second and third floors of the building. They immediately conducted a rescue operation, successfully retrieving an unconscious man from the premises.
According to updates from the New Haven Fire Department, a total of two occupants were removed from the home, and CPR was performed on the unconscious man. He was subsequently transported to Yale New Haven Hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
In addition to the loss of life, the fire has displaced ten occupants from the residence, highlighting the devastating impact of this incident on the community.
