New Fairfield, CT (January 14, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision on Ball Pond Rd near Harvest Rd claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman and left three teenagers injured on Monday night. The crash, reported around 9:30 PM, involved a Hyundai Palisade and a Jeep Compass traveling in opposite directions.
State police said that a 17-year-old male from New Fairfield was driving the Hyundai Palisade northbound, while Diane Staab, a 62-year-old woman from Mahopac, NY, was driving the Jeep Compass southbound. The vehicles collided head-on just north of the intersection of Ball Pond Rd and Harvest Rd.
The driver of the Jeep Compass, identified as Diane Staab, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old driver of the Hyundai Palisade and his two passengers, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from New Fairfield, were transported to Danbury Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The New Fairfield Fire and Rescue responded promptly, working alongside paramedics to treat and transport the injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and anyone with information is urged to contact Trooper Brunsden #948 at the New Fairfield Resident State Trooper’s Office.
