New Castle, DE (September 2, 2024) – A 61-year-old man from New Castle was fatally struck by a vehicle on Saturday evening, August 31. The crash occurred at approximately 9:46 p.m. on N Dupont Hwy near Hazeldell Ave. The pedestrian crossed the highway outside the crosswalk, stepping into the path of a southbound Volkswagen Passat.

The driver, a 60-year-old woman from Bear, attempted to avoid the man but couldn’t. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver’s minor injuries were treated at a nearby hospital.
