Neosho, MO (September 26, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred on September 25 at approximately 3:25 PM, involving two vehicles on US 60, approximately four miles west of Neosho. The incident prompted a response from local emergency services and law enforcement.
According to the investigation conducted by SGT. K. Sanders, the crash involved a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis and a 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis, 91-year-old Delmar Hampton, pulled into the path of the Mitsubishi Mirage driven by 33-year-old Niccara Varela. The collision resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles, leading to their towing from the scene.
Emergency responders arrived promptly to assist those involved in the crash. Norma Hampton, a 90-year-old occupant of the Mercury Grand Marquis, sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for medical treatment. Delmar Hampton, the driver, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to the same hospital for further evaluation.
