Neenah, WI (January 21, 2025) – A fiery crash on the 1300 block of Gillingham Road Monday night left two individuals injured, thanks to the heroic actions of a local resident and a responding deputy. The accident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. when a vehicle went down an embankment and struck a tree.
Tanner Ater, a neighbor who heard the crash, rushed to the scene with a fire extinguisher to control smoke emanating from the engine compartment. After successfully helped the passenger out of the vehicle. Shortly after, he and a Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputy worked together to free the driver moments before the engine became engulfed in flames.
Both the driver and passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
