Natchitoches Parish, LA (March 6, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on I-49 north of Natchitoches claimed the life of a Texas woman on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop E, the crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. when 51-year-old Fletda R. Arterberry of Tyler, TX, was traveling southbound on I-49 in a Can-Am Spiker. Authorities say Arterberry failed to slow down and rear-ended a 1998 Chevrolet truck ahead of her. The impact caused the Can-Am to ignite in flames.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, but despite efforts to provide aid, Arterberry suffered fatal injuries. She was transported to a local medical facility, where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Chevrolet, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not sustain any injuries.
Officials have confirmed that a toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.

Fatal Rear-End Crashes in Louisiana
Rear-end collisions can be devastating, particularly when high speeds or vulnerable vehicles such as motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles are involved. Louisiana’s highways, including I-49, see a significant number of serious crashes each year due to factors such as distracted driving, failure to slow down, and impaired visibility.
In many cases, rear-end accidents result in severe or fatal injuries, especially when fires or secondary impacts occur. Investigations into these crashes often include toxicology testing to determine whether impairment was a factor.
For families dealing with the loss of a loved one due to a tragic accident, understanding legal rights is critical. Seeking legal guidance can help surviving family members navigate the claims process, including options for financial compensation for funeral expenses and other damages.
