Nashville, TN (February 11, 2025) – A motorcyclist was killed, and two others were injured in a crash involving a Harley Davidson and a Honda Civic on Monday evening at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Haywood Ln.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to the scene around 6 p.m. The investigation revealed that 25-year-old Austin Harrison was riding his Harley Davidson southbound on Nolensville Pike, traveling between lanes at a high rate of speed. As he approached the intersection, his motorcycle collided with the passenger side of a Honda Civic that was making an unprotected left turn onto Haywood Ln.

Emergency responders quickly arrived and provided care to all involved. Harrison and the two female occupants of the Honda were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Unfortunately, Harrison succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The two women sustained injuries but are expected to recover.

The driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old who was operating the vehicle without a license, received a citation at the scene. Detectives confirmed that there were no signs of impairment contributing to the crash. It was also reported that Harrison was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Our thoughts are with Austin Harrison’s family during this difficult time, and we extend our hopes for a swift recovery for those injured.

Motorcycle Accidents in Tennessee

Motorcycle accidents often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the lack of protection riders have compared to those in passenger vehicles. In Tennessee, intersections like Nolensville Pike and Haywood Ln are particularly dangerous for motorcyclists, as drivers making left turns may not always see approaching bikes, especially when motorcycles are traveling at high speeds or between lanes.

According to the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security, motorcyclists are disproportionately represented in traffic fatalities across the state. Common causes of motorcycle crashes include speeding, lane splitting, and drivers failing to yield during left-hand turns. Even when riders take precautions, such as wearing helmets, the risk of serious injury remains high.

When accidents occur, victims and their families often face significant emotional and financial burdens. Medical bills, rehabilitation, and funeral expenses can add up quickly. In cases where another party’s negligence contributes to a crash, Tennessee law allows families to pursue legal action to seek compensation for these costs.
