Naples, FL (December 11, 2024) – A tragic crash claimed the life of a woman and left two others injured at the intersection of Airport Rd S and Estey Ave in Naples. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 PM on Tuesday afternoon. Greater Naples Fire and Collier County EMS crews quickly responded to the scene, where they found a red Honda Civic and a white pickup truck involved in the crash.
Troopers report that the 17-year-old female driver of the red Honda Civic, who was still under a learner’s permit, attempted to make an unprotected left turn from the southbound left turn lane on Airport Rd S to Estey Ave. Unfortunately, as she turned, she entered the path of the northbound white pickup truck, causing the collision.
Post-collision, the red Honda Civic struck a third vehicle that had been stopped in the westbound lane of Estey Ave, waiting to cross Airport Rd S. Tragically, a 41-year-old woman in the front passenger seat of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the 17-year-old driver of the Honda Civic and the 50-year-old driver of the white pickup truck were transported to area hospitals with injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was unharmed.
Fatal Crashes in Florida
Fatal accidents like this one serve as a somber reminder of the dangers on Florida’s busy roads, particularly at busy intersections. This crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, and they are looking into all factors that may have contributed to the accident. Notably, troopers observed cases of alcohol scattered around the pickup truck’s bed, and the driver was reported to have an odor of alcohol. However, this observation does not automatically suggest that the driver was over the legal limit for alcohol consumption.
The crash has caused a temporary blockage of one northbound lane of Airport Rd S, and drivers are advised to avoid the area as crews continue to clear the scene.
Local Accident Reports extends its condolences to the family of the victim and reminds all drivers to exercise caution, particularly when navigating intersections. If you or someone you know has been affected by a traffic incident, please contact local authorities for the latest updates and support.
