Naperville, IL (October 25, 2024) – A tragic traffic accident occurred Wednesday night in Naperville, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman. At approximately 8 p.m., emergency responders, including police and fire crews, were dispatched to the intersection of South Naper Boulevard and Hobson Road following reports of a crash involving injuries and a vehicle in a nearby pond.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2020 Nissan Kicks was making a left turn from southbound Naper Boulevard onto eastbound Hobson Road when it was struck by a 2023 Ford Bronco. The Bronco, driven by a 17-year-old girl, was traveling northbound on Naper Boulevard at the time of the collision. The impact caused the Nissan to come to rest north of the intersection, where it became partially submerged in a pond.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as Sarah A. Jelgerhuis of Wheaton, was transported to a local hospital, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Ford Bronco was not reported to have sustained any injuries.
Due to the severity of the crash, traffic crash investigators and reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene to gather evidence and reconstruct the events leading up to the collision. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Sarah A. Jelgerhuis during this difficult time.
