Murray, KY (November 15, 2024) – A single-vehicle crash on Highway 641 North at the intersection with Flint Road in Calloway County left one driver entrapped and six passengers needing assistance after their vehicle slammed into a tree head-on. Calloway County 911 Communications Center dispatched Fire & Rescue units shortly after the accident was reported, with a caller noting that multiple individuals were inside the vehicle and smoke might be emanating from the wreckage.

Emergency crews responded rapidly, with Pumper 1 arriving on scene in less than 4 minutes. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle had exited the roadway and struck a tree, causing significant damage. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, and additional manpower was requested to assist with the rescue. Firefighters utilized hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the “jaws of life,” to extricate the driver.

The six other passengers were removed from the vehicle by Calloway County Sheriff’s Office and Murray-Calloway County EMS personnel. Due to the severity of the injuries, mutual aid was called in, and Marshall County EMS and two AirEvac helicopters were requested to transport patients for medical treatment. However, due to adverse weather conditions, only one helicopter was able to respond, transporting three of the patients to other hospitals for further care.

Thankfully, all individuals involved in the crash are expected to make a full recovery. Emergency crews remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half, with 22 firefighters from Calloway County Fire & Rescue (CCFR) working tirelessly alongside law enforcement and medical teams to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.

Emergency Response and Community Cooperation

The quick and coordinated response from all involved agencies, including CCFR, Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Murray-Calloway County EMS, Marshall County EMS, AirEvac, and Parker Ford Towing, helped ensure that the injured parties received timely care. The scene served as a reminder of the importance of teamwork and preparedness in emergency situations.
