Moses Lake, WA (October 2, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle crash occurred on State Route 17 (SR17) in Grant County on Sunday at 11:20 a.m., injuring four individuals.
The collision involved six vehicles and was triggered by a severe dust storm that drastically reduced visibility, creating hazardous driving conditions. The chain reaction began when a northbound vehicle slowed down due to the storm, leading to a rear-end collision with a second vehicle. This initial impact set off a series of collisions involving several other vehicles.
In a dramatic turn of events, one vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with a vehicle traveling southbound. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, where four people, including two passengers, were taken to Samaritan Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The drivers ranged in age from 24 to 60 years old, while the passengers included a 1-month-old infant and a 19-year-old. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.
Significant damage occurred to all six vehicles, with two of them being totaled. The Washington State Patrol attributed the crash primarily to the dust storm, which drastically reduced visibility and contributed to the chain reaction.
