Pedestrian Accidents in North Carolina
Pedestrian safety is a growing concern across North Carolina, especially in busy intersections and areas with heavy foot traffic. Crosswalk-related accidents often result from driver inattention, speeding, or failure to obey traffic signals.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), pedestrian fatalities and injuries continue to rise, with many incidents occurring at marked crosswalks where pedestrians should have the right of way. Drivers are required by law to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop at red lights to ensure safe passage.
Pedestrians can improve their safety by making eye contact with drivers before crossing, using designated crosswalks, and wearing reflective clothing at night. Drivers should remain alert, reduce speed in pedestrian-heavy areas, and avoid distractions like mobile phone use while driving.
As authorities continue investigating Wednesday’s crash, they encourage anyone with further information to contact local law enforcement.
