Morganton, NC – Pedestrian Killed in Crash on I-40 near Exit 104

Morganton, NC (September 19, 2024) – NC State Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a tractor-trailer involved in a fatal hit-and-run on I-40 West near Exit 104. The incident occurred on September 18 at around 9:20 a.m. when a 2018 or newer Freightliner Cascadia struck 25-year-old pedestrian Alfredo Hernandez-Son and fled the scene.

Hernandez-Son tragically died from his injuries at the location. The tractor-trailer is believed to be missing its right front headlight assembly and has damage to the right front bumper and hood. Authorities are investigating the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
