Montcalm County, MI (October 4, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision occurred Thursday night, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old woman from Greenville. The accident took place around 10 p.m. on South Sheridan Road, near Boyer Road in Fairplain Township.
According to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation revealed that a northbound 2008 Audi, driven by a 25-year-old man from West Bloomfield, attempted to pass another vehicle. During this maneuver, the Audi collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Chrysler 200, which was being driven by a 21-year-old man from Ionia. The impact of the crash was severe, causing the engine of the Chrysler to dislodge from the vehicle.
The Greenville woman, who was a passenger in the Audi, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Corwell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, a 15-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Chrysler, was transported to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities reported that the deceased woman was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, while the other individuals involved are believed to have been wearing theirs. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
