Monroe County, MI (January 22, 2025) – A tragic three-vehicle collision early Wednesday morning on southbound I-75 near Gaynier Road in Erie Township claimed the life of one woman and left another person injured. The crash involved two passenger vehicles and a semi-truck, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 12:05 a.m. and discovered a 2023 Hyundai Kona against the median barrier. The driver, a 56-year-old woman from Detroit, was unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A 43-year-old Detroit man who was a passenger in the Hyundai sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital.
Authorities stated that the Hyundai collided with the rear of a semi-truck while traveling southbound on I-75, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then struck a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 33-year-old man from Warren, who had three passengers with him. Fortunately, the occupants of the Pacifica and the semi-truck were unharmed.
