Milton, WA (December 2, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred late Sunday night on southbound I-5, just north of the Pierce County line in Milton. At approximately 11:40 p.m., a 26-year-old man from Auburn, suspected of driving under the influence (DUI), collided with the rear of another vehicle, resulting in the death of the 35-year-old driver of the other car. According to Washington State Patrol (WSP), both vehicles spun out after the crash, with the suspect vehicle coming to rest about 500 feet from the initial impact site.
The driver of the other car, a 35-year-old man from Goshen, Indiana, was killed in the collision. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite efforts to save him, the driver succumbed to his injuries. The suspect driver, who is facing DUI and vehicular homicide charges, had one passenger taken to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way with injuries. Another passenger in the suspect vehicle was unharmed.
The roadway was closed for over four hours as investigators from WSP worked to process the scene, but the lanes have since reopened. Both vehicles involved were totaled in the collision.
